According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Andreas Christensen is being considered for a crucial role in Barcelona’s lineup under their new coach, Hansi Flick.

Flick, who has taken over from Xavi, sees Christensen as a valuable asset in the defensive midfield position, the same area where he played Last season under the former manager.

It has been suggested that with injuries sidelining key midfielders like Frenkie de Jong and Gavi, Christensen has an opportunity to continue playing as a holding midfielder.

Flick has discussed with his coaching staff that despite the player’s career primarily being as a centre-back, he possesses the qualities needed to excel as a defensive midfielder.

Christensen would be fine with this transition

Christensen is known for his discreet nature and low profile. He is not one to seek the spotlight or dominate social media. Instead, he focuses on his work quietly and efficiently, earning the respect and appreciation of his teammates and coaches.

His transition from centre-back to midfield last season was seamless, proving his adaptability and skill.

The idea to use the Denmark international in the midfield initially came from Deco, who suggested it to Xavi due to the underperformance of Oriol Romeu and the injuries to De Jong.

Xavi decided to give Christensen a chance in the final stretch of the season, and the results were promising. He not only provided solid defensive coverage but also contributed offensively, even scoring a goal.

Under Flick, Christensen will continue to be an essential part of the team. The new coach also has other options for the midfield, including De Jong, once he recovers from his injury, and young talents like Marc Casado and Marc Bernal.

Mikel Merino is another player who is highly regarded, but for now, the priority seems to be reinforcing the attack. This means Christensen’s role in the midfield becomes even more critical, as he provides the necessary stability and defensive strength.
