Many fans expected to see “Stone Cold” Steve Austin interfere in the main event of WWE WrestleMania, given The Rock’s involvement. However, The Undertaker appeared instead. A new report states that Austin was originally planned for the spot.

Ahead of WWE WrestleMania, Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the belief was that WWE was planning on using John Cena, The Undertaker, and Steve Austin in some capacity at WWE WrestleMania 40, but nothing was official.

Cena and The Undertaker appeared at the show. They got involved in the main event between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns. Cena took out Solo Sikoa, while The Undertaker dropped The Rock with a chokeslam. However, “Stone Cold” did not make an appearance.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer reported that Steve Austin was originally earmarked for the spot at the end of the main event. However, the two sides could not agree to financial terms. As a result, The Undertaker was put in his place.
