More details on Sting‘s rafter entrance.
As noted, “The Icon” flew down from the rafters for his final AEW Dynamite appearance as an active competitor on February 28. It was the first time he had done it since TNA Slammiversary 2007, and now more information has emerged.
Fightful Select reported on Friday that AEW President Tony Khan called Martha Hart ahead of the spot to “confer” with her. Sting had largely stayed away from the rafter entrance since Owen Hart’s unfortunate passing in 1999, and the company wanted to have her blessing considering AEW’s relationship with her.
Martha reportedly did give her blessing for the spot to happen, which is why it ended up coming to fruition despite some online chatter afterward about it being dangerous or insensitive.
Sting will compete in his final pro wrestling match this Sunday at AEW Revolution in Greensboro. WrestleZone will have complete coverage of the event as it airs.
