Fans continue to buzz about AJ Lee potentially returning to WWE ahead of WWE Royal Rumble, and a new report provides an update.
Lee, a former WWE Divas Champion, has not wrestled since 2015. She returned to the business with a run in Women of Wrestling, as she worked as an Executive Producer and commentator. Lee left WOW in 2023. Speculation about Le’s potential return has regularly heated up since her husband, CM Punk, came back to the company.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that WWE sources claim that they have not heard about AJ Lee potentially showing up at WWE Royal Rumble. However, they noted that if it was happening, this would be kept extremely close to the vest.
Sapp also writes that talent from both WWE and AEW have joked about pulling Lee out of retirement, but they had never heard of there being a situation where it could be a reality. The report also cites a WWE higher-up who said that Lee looks like she would fit right back on TV, and she was likely aware that if she wanted to be in the Rumble, it could happen.
Additionally, Sapp writes that CM Punk’s tease about AJ Lee potentially returning at WWE Royal Rumble was believed to mean that he’d jokingly get in trouble with her for bringing it up.

Punk has often been asked about Lee’s potential return. In November, he was asked about the possibility while speaking with Peter Rosenberg at ComplexCon.
“She 100% supersedes me,” CM Punk admitted. “Yeah, that’s the fun thing about wrestling fans. Like you just said, oh, Chicago fans are the best in the world. They look for stuff that necessarily isn’t there.
“But I think that’s kind of the fun of it. Everyone’s talking about, oh, well, who’s gonna main event WrestleMania? Who’s gonna enter the Royal Rumble, who’s gonna come back? And they’re always looking around this time of year for big returns. I had mine last year. I think hers would be bigger than mine. But again, I’m kind of hands-off on the deal.”
