New reports provide an update on Ricochet‘s future.
On June 8, Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that Ricochet gave WWE his notice regarding his intent to leave the company when his contract expired this summer. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer then reported that “according to those close to the situation, everything is up in the air.” (H/t Josh Nason of F4WOnline.com)
In an update, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that Ricochet is likely leaving WWE, and the company is preparing accordingly. Sapp writes that he could not confirm that Ricochet gave his notice, but he was told that there was a “high likelihood” that he will leave the company. Ricochet is expected to land in AEW, according to sources.
Per Sapp, AEW talent and staff were talking about Ricochet possibly joining the company this past week. However, there is no word on whether there have been official talks about the matter. Sapp reiterates that nothing is impossible, but “all indications” were that Ricochet had decided he would be leaving WWE. Sapp also writes that NJPW is expected to have interest as well.
Ricochet’s On-Screen Future
In the report, Sapp also writes that WWE is preparing for the outcome that Ricochet does leave. He writes that “creative measures have already been taken” to write him off WWE TV. This was one factor in him dropping the WWE Speed Championship to Andrade. Other pitches have been made to write him off WWE programming if necessary.
Per Sapp, one of these plans would see Bron Breakker take the former WWE Intercontinental Champion out. As always, plans are subject to change.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
