A new report provides an update on Sammy Guevara‘s suspension from AEW.
During Sammy Guevara’s match against Jeff Hardy on the February 16 episode of AEW Rampage, Hardy suffered an injury. On March 5, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reported that Sammy Guevara had been suspended by AEW as a result of the situation, as concussion protocol was not followed in the match.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported an update on the situation, as he wrote that the suspension came from the discipline committee. Per Meltzer, Guevara was told to go right to the finish of the match after Doc Sampson checked on Hardy, as there was fear that Jeff had suffered a concussion. However, Guevara continued and hit Hardy in the head with his GTH finisher.
Per Meltzer, the feeling was that Guevara should have ended the match right away if there was concern about a possible concussion, and he should not have done a GTH. Melter cites another perspective that notes that it was a miscommunication between the involved parties.
As of this writing, it is unclear how long Sammy Guevara will be suspended or when he will return to AEW programming.
Matt Hardy has confirmed that Jeff Hardy suffered a broken nose during his match aganst Guevara. There is no word on when Jeff Hardy will return to the ring.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
