A new report provides an update on The Lucha BrosAEW status as they continue to be linked to WWE.

As previously reported, the contracts of both Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo were set to expire in 2024, and WWE was interested in the duo. Penta had claimed that he had been in contact with WWE. Sources said that he claimed he told the company that he and Fenix were a package deal, and they wanted to go to the main roster.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) then reported an update, writing that AEW became aware of the situation and had seen evidence of at least one of them discussing their plan to head to WWE. The report notes that AEW offered The Lucha Bros a contract, hoping to re-sign them and even put the trios titles on them, but they did not agree to the deal.

Sapp cites sources in AEW who said that The Lucha Bros had not discussed or communicated their plans to leave the company. In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that AEW was adding a few months to Penta’s deal, and significantly more was being added to Fenix’s. Sapp cites this report and notes that it lines up with what he had heard, saying that WWE sources had informed that Fenix would not be imminently joining the company.

More Details

As for Penta, Sapp writes that when time was added to his deal, that’s when he tweeted that his present was in AEW, as he had hoped that Fenix did not get more injury time added to his deal. Per Sapp, there is no word on whether AEW plans on having The Lucha Bros work in the future, but sources confirmed that if they’re under contract, they are being paid.

Sapp also writes that sources noted that AEW extended their deals because the company wanted to get the contracted amount of time out of them that they were signed for. Sapp also reiterated that the duo are not signed by WWE, and WWE has never acknowledged reports or rumors about them in an official capacity.

WrestleZone will report more information as it becomes available.
