EXCLUSIVE: Rhona Mitra has landed the female lead opposite Joel Kinnaman in Debriefing the President (wt), the four-hour miniseries recently greenlighted at TNT, which comes as part of the network’s renewed focus on premium event programming.

Mitra plays Polly Stevens, a colleague of Kinnaman’s real-life CIA analyst John Nixon (Kinnaman), whose book of the same name inspired the series. The show marks a return to TNT for the actress following two seasons as Dr. Rachel Scott in its action drama The Last Ship.

Delving into the 2003 interrogation of deposed Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, Debriefing the President explores a CIA analyst’s relentless search for truth, the complexities of justice on the global stage, and the deeply personal father-son connections woven into a turbulent period of history. Kinnaman’s Nixon is the first American official to positively identify and interrogate Saddam Hussein following his capture. The miniseries follows his journey as he grapples with the ramifications of the Iraq invasion, uncovering the far-reaching humanitarian and geopolitical consequences of Saddam’s removal from power.

Set to premiere in 2025, the show marks TNT’s first scripted series greenlight since the Warner Bros.-Discovery merger of 2022. It’s directed by Krzysztof Skonieczny and exec produced by Alexander Rodnyansky, Kinnaman, Stuart Manashil, Michael Kupisk, Peter Gerwe, Shelley Browning, and Leslie Greif. Cristi Bostanescu and Eric Tomosunas serve as producers.

Mitra has recently been seen starring opposite Martin Csokas and Jon Voight in James Bamford’s Shadow Land and alongside Frank Grillo in Isaac Florentine’s action drama Hounds of War. Next up, she’ll be seen in M.J. Bassett’s remake of Red Sonja, co-starring Matilda Lutz, Wallis Day, and Robert Sheehan. She’s represented by Buchwald.
