Manchester United defender Rhys Bennett will spend the rest of the season on loan at League Two leaders Stockport County.
The young centre-back has completed his first loan move of his career and it will be a fantastic opportunity to get his first taste of senior football, as confirmed by Manchester United this evening.
Stockport County, currently managed by Dave Challinor, currently sit two points clear of Wrexham in League Two. Their aim for the second half of the campaign will be to secure automatic promotion to League One and it would be great if Bennett was able to play a key role in that.
As an academy player, Bennett’s best moment came when he captained the U18s team that lifted the FA Youth Cup in 2022. The defender scored the final’s opener against Nottingham Forest.
The 20-year-old has been restricted to Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy action this season. Erik ten Hag has named Bennett on the bench four times since becoming manager, although he has yet to make his debut in a competitive game for the club.
That’s why it makes sense for Bennett to go on loan for the rest of the season.
Bennett is the seventh player to leave Old Trafford on loan this month. He could make his debut for Stockport County on Saturday, when they take on Notts County.
We would like to wish Bennett the best of luck at Stockport County. Hopefully he can impress, get lots of game time and develop as a footballer before returning to United in the summer.
