Manchester United have confirmed former chief executive Richard Arnold left the club with a £5.5m payoff last year.

According to BBC Sport, the payment was detailed as “compensation for loss of office” in United’s accounts, which were released earlier this week.

Arnold, who wasn’t a football man by any means, left United in November, with Patrick Stewart taking over as interim chief executive until the arrival of Omar Berrada, who is currently on gardening leave at Man City.

Reflecting on Arnold’s short period as chief executive, he will be remembered for the situation around Mason Greenwood, when he reversed an initial intention to allow the striker to continue his career at United.

He now works away with a few million in his pocket. How nice…
