Richard E. Grant (Saltburn), Amir El-Masry (In Camera), and Felicity Jones (The Brutalist) are the three final big additions to 100 Nights of Hero, director Julia Jackman’s period fantasy based on the graphic novel from Isabel Greenberg, on which we were first to report.

Details as to the roles of the trio are under wraps. As previously announced, Emma Corrin, Maika Monroe, Nicholas Galitzine and Charli XCX will also star.

Also new to the project is Project Infinity’s Grant S. Johnson (May December), who produces alongside Helen Simmons and Stephanie Aspin. Then, there’s Jones’ Piecrust Pictures, which has boarded as an executive producer. Production on the indie has wrapped.

A feminist fairy tale, inspired by One Thousand and One Nights, 100 Nights is set in an alternate world, ruled by the despotic Birdman, centering on a bet between two friends: Manfred (Galitzine) wagers to Jerome he can seduce his wife, Cherry (Monroe), in 100 nights. If he wins, he gets Jerome’s castle and all his riches, whilst Cherry will be collateral damage; she will be executed. As Jerome leaves, Cherry finds herself trapped in a remote castle, torn between the beguiling charisma of her husband’s friend and her trust in her maid Hero (Corrin), whose suspicions of Manfred grow daily. As time starts running out, emotions intensify, resulting in a love triangle with life-and-death stakes.

100 Nights‘ cast, brought together by casting director Olivia Grant, also includes Safia Oakley-Green (Out of Darkness), Christopher Fairbank (Lady Macbeth), Tom Stourton (All My Friends Hate Me), Jeff Mirza (Juice), Olivia D’Lima (The Killing Kind), Kerena Jagpal (3 Body Problem), Markella Kavenagh (Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Clare Perkins (Medusa Deluxe), Josh Cowdery (Wrath of Man), and Varada Sethu (Doctor Who). WME Independent is handling international sales and co-repping North American rights alongside CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group.

Stated Jackman, “I’ve been in love with Isabel’s graphic novel since I read it in 2016 (!), and it’s been a dream to adapt it into its own weird cinematic universe. I’m excited for people to see what we’ve done with Manfred, Cherry and Hero – even if you’ve read the book, you may not know the whole story just yet!”

Pic’s new producer, Johnson, commented, “Until 100 Nights of Hero, I hadn’t seen a project since Euphoria that so taps into what feels like the next generation of filmmakers, talent, and material. While the film appears to be a period drama, it’s not, and is modern in its sensibilities. This is one of those rare projects that will captivate all four quadrants, and do so genuinely and earnestly. I am honored to be working alongside these creatives to make a generation-defining film, while continuing my mission of supporting female-led films.”

Added producers Simmons and Aspin, “We are over the moon to be bringing Isabel Greenberg’s beautiful graphic novel to life with the team of our dreams! Julia Jackman has crafted a truly mesmerizing world which is as playful as it is magical, and we can’t believe how lucky we are to be joined by our phenomenal cast. We know audiences are in for a real treat.”
