Richard Lewis is still making us laugh in Curb Your Enthusiam. The series paid tribute to the beloved late comedian and series co-star at the opening of Sunday’s episode with a special title card.

“In memory of Richard Lewis. 1947 – 2024,” the dedication card read.

Lewis, who appeared in Curb as a fictionalized version of himself, was seen in the fifth Season 12 episode titled “Fish Stuck” in which he was still arguing with Larry (Larry David) over who would be left in whose will. Larry told Richard he was including him in his will, which made Richard angry, continuing the season’s running joke.

Lewis’ publicist Jeff Abraham confirmed last Wednesday that the actor died Feb. 27 at his home in Los Angeles after suffering a heart attack. He was 76. Lewis had been living with Parkinson’s disease, a diagnosis he revealed in April 2023.

Curb star Larry David and Lewis were lifelong friends and he released a statement following the comedian’s death.

“Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me,” David wrote in a statement shared by HBO. “He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him.”

HBO released a statement when his death was announced: “We are heartbroken to learn that Richard Lewis has passed away. His comedic brilliance, wit and talent were unmatched. Richard will always be a cherished member of the HBO and Curb Your Enthusiasm families, our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and all the fans who could count on Richard to brighten their days with laughter.”
