Ricky Starks thinks he came off quite well in his infamous promo with Adam Copeland.
On the October 14th, 2023 episode of AEW Collision, Ricky Starks engaged in a war of words with the WWE Hall of Famer. It all began when Ricky Starks called him “bug-eyed” and insulted the former Edge’s dress sense.
Adam Copeland then accused Ricky Starks of stealing his style from The Rock, before calling him a “vanilla midget version of [The Rock]”. The line got a big pop before Starks remarked that the insult sent him “over the edge”.
Ricky Starks recently appeared on Insight With Chris Van Vliet where he discussed the infamous promo with Adam Copeland. He explained that he thinks he’s actually a great heel for getting Copeland flustered during the unscripted exchange.
The former FTW Champion added that Copeland calling him a vanilla midget was “one of the worst insults you can say”, and doesn’t think he came out of it looking bad at all.
“Do you know what he called me? He called me a ‘Vanilla Midget Rock rip-off’. You know, that clip goes viral all the time. It’s so funny because at the end of it, I wanted to say more but if you see me smile and say ‘Well, that really sent me over the edge’, I only did that because I knew that this was about to get off track.”
“Here’s the thing about that. You might as well call me a great heel. I hate saying and talking like this but you might as well call me a great heel because I got somebody so flustered on live TV that they stumbled and stuttered their way into one of the worst insults that you can say. That’s so passé, so 2000. A vanilla midget? I could have hit him with the ‘I’m black, you idiot!’. I could have but I didn’t”.
“Personally, out of all that, I don’t think Ricky Starks came out of it looking very bad. It wasn’t me that looked bad in that whole situation and so it is what it is.”
