Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand took to X to give his damning verdict on Sunday’s 3-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Manchester United captain gave a passionate rant at the levels expected and what the current United side is producing under Erik ten Hag.
It was arguably one of the worst displays in Ten Hag’s reign with the players looking off the pace and unable to create chances or prevent Ange Postecogou’s Spurs side from creating dangerous attacks.
It was a big defeat for Manchester United fans to witness and it has only increased the scrutiny and speculation on Ten Hag’s position in the Old Trafford hot seat.
Rio Ferdinand questions the fight of Manchester United players after 3-0 Tottenham defeat
Ferdinand was dismayed with the level of intensity and desire shown by the Manchester United players and believes the Bruno Fernandes red card should not take away the concern about the Red Devils’ display against Spurs.
As quoted by the Mirror, Ferdinand said:
“Where’s the pride man? I just don’t know. That fight doesn’t seem where it should be. The Bruno red card I think is p*** poor as well. I think it’s a p*** poor red card. In no day and age should that ever be a red card. A straight red card? No way, I can’t have it.
“But do not let that distract from the fact that we were terrible. We were an embarrassment today. The red card shouldn’t be an excuse for anybody at Man Utd now. It shouldn’t be an excuse for anyone at the football club.
“We were terrible. We were terrible to watch. It was a terrible kind of representation of who were are and what we are right now. Giving the ball away constantly. I’m ranting here but I can’t help it. I’ve sat and watched the game and just thought what the hell are we?”
