Farcical scenes in Britain, where Rishi Sunak‘s speech announcing a July 4 election was drowned out by rain and a protestor blasting D:Ream hit Things Can Only Get Better.

As the prime minister delivered his address to the nation, he was getting visibly drenched by a spring shower, while he had to fight to be heard over protests outside Downing Street.

A member of the public was playing Things Can Only Get Better, a famous Tony Blair campaign song and likely reference to the fact that there could be a change of government in the UK after 14 years of Conservative rule. Labour is around 20 points ahead in the polls.

“Things can only get wetter,” joked Jessica Elgot, The Guardian’s deputy political editor.
