Police authorities in Rivers State have officially declared Gabriel ‘General’ Asabuja, a former Niger Delta militant leader, wanted following his provocative statements in a viral video amidst the ongoing local government council crisis.

This announcement was made by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Commissioner Disu condemned Asabuja’s actions, emphasizing the panic and concern generated by his threats in the state and beyond.

He assured the public that law enforcement has initiated actions to apprehend Asabuja, stressing the seriousness with which such threats are being handled.

The crisis in Rivers State stems from disputes between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, escalating recently over the leadership of local government councils.

Governor Fubara’s decision to install a caretaker committee after the expiration of council officials’ tenures sparked protests and opposition from Wike’s supporters.

In response, the police have issued warnings against any form of violence, affirming their readiness to maintain peace and apprehend individuals inciting unrest.

Commissioner Disu reiterated that Asabuja’s defiance in response to police invitations will not deter efforts to bring him to justice.
