The rumoured defection of the Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has created a division between the state chapter of the Action Peoples Party (APP), the party said to be in the governor’s mind and the Labour Party (LP).

Although Fubara has denied the allegations that he wanted to join the APP, assuring the Senator Adolphus Wabara -led PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) that he would remain in the party, some oppositions parties in the state have accused the governing of ‘selecting candidates’ from the PDP for positions for the October 5 local government election.

Some opposition parties, especially the LP claimed that the governor and his Chief of Staff, Hon. Edison Ehie, are selecting candidates inside Government House, Port Harcourt, to contest the council poll in order to prepare ground for Fubara’s eventual defection.

The LP South-South Vice Chairman, Favour Reuben, who has been the most vocal among the opposition parties that are also participating in the coming council poll, has incurred the wrath of the state Chairman of the APP, Hon. Sunny Wokekoro.

Wokekoro, who has tackled the LP chief over his comments, wants him to focus on the October 5 council election and stop engaging in mudslinging, noting however that APP remains focused despite ongoing verbal and physical attacks and that it is willing to welcome members from other political parties.
