The Pan-Niger Delta Forum has reacted to the state of emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.

The president, in a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, declared a state of emergency on Rivers, in the wake of the political crisis in the state.

He also suspended the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.

Subsequently, President Tinubu nominated Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd.) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state in the interest of the good people of Rivers State.

Reacting to the latest development, PANDEF, in a statement by its National Spokesman, Dr. Obiuwevbi Ominimini, described the decision as alarming.

The apex socio-political body of the South-South geopolitical zone noted that the situation will be studied and their position made known.

The statement reads, “PANDEF is seriously alarmed by the state of emergency declared in Rivers State due to a crisis that is ordinarily avoidable.

“We are therefore studying the situation and we shall soon come up with PANDEF position.”
