Rivers poll: Falana sues for peace, writes police

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana has written to the police authorities over the local government election scheduled to be held in Rivers State on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

Falana on Friday in a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said an order had been filed against the judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on September 30, 2024, by the Honourable Justice Peter Lifu.

Recall that PUNCH Online reported that Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja barred the Independent National Electoral Commission from releasing the voters’ register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 5, 2024.

PUNCH Online had also reported that the Rivers State Government and the police command in the state have been at loggerheads with the latter saying it would not provide security for the exercise.

The police said it would judge from the Federal High Court, Abuja which bars the Force from participating in the election.
