Luton Town were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United on Sunday, but Hatters boss Rob Edwards couldn’t help but aim a bitter dig at the better team.

Edwards suggested that United got a favourable amount of stoppage time – in a match Kobbie Mainoo was booked for a perfectly clean tackle.

Rasmus Hojlund put the Reds 2-0 up after just seven minutes to break a Premier League record, before Carlton Morris pulled one back for the hosts.

Reporters asked Edwards if he was disappointed that there was only four minutes of added time as the newly promoted side pushed for an equaliser at Kenilworth Road. He said (via Sky Sports): “Yeah, it’s like back to last season that wasn’t it? I don’t know where that one came from. Man United are winning 2-1… so it’s 4 minutes!”

Bitterly funny

There’s few things I like more than waking up on a morning to seeing bitter quotes from the opposition.

United went to Kenilworth Road, picked up three points and Edwards couldn’t help but spit his dummy out.

As Erik ten Hag alluded to in his post-match press conference, United wasted a lot of clear cut against the Hatters. We should have had the game sealed up long before stoppage time.

I can almost taste Edwards’ tears in my coffee. It’s delightful.
