Robbie Savage absolutely embarrassing with comments after Newcastle draw at Everton

Robbie Savage was embarrassing as a football player.

So you have to hand it to him, as he manages to be even more so as an ‘expert’ pundit.

Even worse, it is our license fee money that is paying for that ‘expert’ opinion.

Robbie Savage has been talking about Newcastle United’s goalless draw at Goodison Park.

This was on BBC Radio 5 Live with Robbie Savage disagreeing with Chris Sutton over a penalty claim when Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Dan Burn came into contact with each other late in the match in the Newcastle United penalty area:

Chris Sutton:

“It is amazing because you are supposed to be a football expert.

“Dan Burn gets his body in the way and Dominic Calvert-Lewin kicks him.

“You don’t know what you are talking about.

“You think that should be a penalty???”

Robbie Savage:

“Correct me if I am wrong but…

“In the Euros, didn’t England get a penalty for Harry Kane kicking a defender?

“Am I wrong?

“It is a penalty.

“A stonewaller.”

Chris Sutton:

“You know you are just making that up.

“You don’t have to back up Sean Dyche blindly just because you spoke to him during the week.

“That is just gutless from you.

“It wasn’t a penalty.”

The thing is, you can’t blame the Everton fans inside the stadium, going off it because their team didn’t get a penalty.

If we are honest, we all do it. At the match you think/hope that this is the case.

However, for the likes of all of us watching on TV, including Robbie Savage…

With the benefit of the TV replays, they clearly show it is Dominic Calvert-Lewin who kicks Dan Burn before the Everton striker theatrically throws himself to the ground, NOT Dan Burn kicking the Everton forward.

Honestly, to be paid to give your ‘expert’ opinion and then still come out with that, when it couldn’t have been clearer to Robbie Savage that it wasn’t a penalty. Maybe this is the most powerful evidence yet that former players should NOT work as a VAR, or be any part of that process, because you just know we would end up with clowns such as Robbie Savage involved.
