We know Robert Downey Jr. is now Doctor Doom. But he’s also back as Iron Man, at least in Disney Parks. At Disney’s massive Experiences panel at D23 this weekend we Downey will reprise his iconic role in at least one, but probably two, brand new rides officially announced for Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, CA. Those join two new Spider-man rides as the four brand new Marvel attractions revealed at the event.
Downey will definitely be back for Stark Flight Lab, a ride first announced at the event which will be at Avengers Campus in California. It’ll have you and a friend in seats that get spun around as part of a new experiment by Mr. Stark himself. That will be joining the previously announced multiverse Avengers ride that’s still on the way which now we know is called “Avengers: Infinity Defense.” Park guests will travel across time and space, visiting Wakanda, Asgard, and eventually New York City in a battle against King Thanos. Construction on both rides will begin in 2025 and here’s some more concept art.
Now, as for Downey, at D23, Imagineer Scott Trowbridge said Downey would be back as Stark “as we bring these new experiences to Avengers Campus.” “Experiences,” plural. The Disney Parks Blog says “Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as Tony Stark for [Stark Flight Lab.]”. We have reached out to Disney for clarification and will update this post if or when we hear back.
Either way, those two rides will double the size of the first Avengers Campus, which has recently seen a resurgence thanks to the addition of Deadpool. Deadpool even made a prolonged appearance at the panel, pitching the head of Disney Parks on several Deadpool-themed rides but those won’t be happening
The two Marvel rides that are happening will debut across the Pacific. Shanghai Disneyland will get a Spider-Man roller coaster and Hong Kong Disneyland will get what appears to be a Spider-Man drop ride. Here are images.
