Neither side could find a winner in the second half as the draining conditions left both sides knackered by the end, A combination of the sunshine and a long season taking effect.

Newcastle United the ones pressing for the winner towards the end and Roberto De Zerbi declaring himself happy with the performance and point.

Roberto De Zerbi reacting to Newcastle 1 Brighton 1:

“To finish in the top ten would be a great result.

“I think better than last season [when finishing sixth] because we have had a lot of injuries and we have played in the Europa League.

“I am really pleased with the performance today.

“We played against one of the best teams in terms of physical condition in this moment.

“In this stadium the atmosphere is incredible.

“The level of difficulty of this game was high.

“But we played in our style, with courage and ideas.

“We are not in the best moment in my time but we have to play with personality and ideas and I’m pleased we did that today.

“We suffered in the last 25 minutes and their four changes made a difference.

“But we have to be proud of the performance.

“We have two tough home games but we would like to finish in the top ten.”
