EXCLUSIVE: Jack Patten is quickly making a name for himself in Hollywood. The Australian actor, a 2023 graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney, has landed his first TV role, and it’s the lead of an on-air series, MGM+’s Robin Hood. The casting follows Patten’s similarly impressive first Hollywood job on the upcoming Patrick Hughes film for Netflix War Machine, which landed the actor US representation by Gersh.
Robin Hood, from Lionsgate TV and showrunner John Glenn, is described as a sweeping, romantic adventure, a modern take of the classic tale that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian.
In the series, following the Norman invasion of England, Rob (Patten) – a Saxon forester’s son – and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord – fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom. As Rob rises as the leader of a band of rebel outlaws, Marian infiltrates the power at court, as both work together to thwart royal corruption and bring peace to the land.
“We are very excited to cast Jack Patten in his first television series leading role,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. “We knew immediately when we saw him that he was our ideal Robin and uniquely able to bring to life this iconic character. Jack brings unique charisma and heart to this new iteration of the classic romantic adventure of a rogue outlaw who steals from the rich to care for the poor and finds his soul mate in the equally powerful Marian.”
Jonathan English is directing the pilot and serves as producing director on the 10-episode season. Todd Lieberman executive produces for Hidden Pictures.
Patten, a former football prodigy who turned to acting after his budding professional sports career was ended by a knee injury, recently wrapped the Australian shoot of War Machine, in which he stars opposite Alan Ritchson, Jai Courtney and Dennis Quaid. He continues to be represented by Natasha Harrison and Laura Scott at United Management in Australia.
