‘Robocop’ TV Series Takes Shape With Peter Ocko As Showrunner And James Wan As EP For Amazon MGM Studios

Robocop continues to progress through the development process at Amazon MGM Studios. Veteran Peter Ocko (Lodge 49) has been tapped as writer, executive producer and showrunner on the potential series, based on the MGM movie franchise, with horror master James Wan on board to executive produce through his Atomic Monster banner.

The series will follow the premise of the films, focusing on a giant tech conglomerate which collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.

Ocko executive produces alongside Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Danielle Bozzone is overseeing for Atomic Monster.

As Deadline reported exclusively last year, Robocop was among the first MGM titles identified for series development following Amazon’s acquisition of the 100-year-old studio. The first project under the initiative, a Legally Blonde prequel series, was greenlighted in May, with several otehrs, including Poltergeist and Barbershop, in the pipeline.

The Robocop sci-fi action franchise centers around the futuristic adventures of Alex Murphy, a Detroit, Michigan police officer, who is fatally wounded in the line of duty and transformed into a powerful cyborg, brand-named RoboCop. The first film, starring Peter Weller, premiered in 1987. It was followed by two sequels, Robocop 2 in 1990, Robocop 3 in 1993 and 2014’s Robocop, a remake of the 1987 film.

Wan, co-creator of the Saw and Insidious franchises and the creator of The Conjuring universe, is behind the upcoming Peacock horror series Teacoup. He is repped by CAA, Stacey Testro International, and Myman Greenspan Fox. Ocko is repped by Jackoway Austen Tyerman and Manage-ment.
