The Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris was the talk of the town last night as drama unfolded to the highest level in the race for the men’s award.
Real Madrid’s delegation refused to travel to the ceremony after rumours brought to light that Vinicius was not the victor, and as it turned out, it was Manchester City’s Rodri who earned the bragging rights.
The Barcelona delegation made the trip to Paris with Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo and Pau Cubarsi making it to the event with their families and Joan Laporta among other representatives.
Rodri praises Yamal
After being named the latest recipient of the Ballon d’Or, Spanish NT superstar Rodri gave a detailed speech in which he had special words of praise for Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.
He began by thanking all parties involved in his success including the Spanish National Team and how it was a special moment for the entire country of Spain to have the Ballon d’Or back.

“Lamine Yamal will win this trophy very soon; I’m convinced of it. Keep it up, keep working, and you’ll get there,” he said, as revealed by CBS Sports Golazo.
When France Football announced the list of nominees for the Ballon d’Or earlier this year, Yamal made history as the youngest-ever nominee for the prestigious award.
Last night, the countdown to the top revealed that the player even broke into the top 10 of the Ballon d’Or standings, all at the age of just 17 years.
He finished eighth on the list, ahead of the likes of Harry Kane and Toni Kroos, and became the youngest player to make the top 10 in the Ballon d’Or race and broke Kylian Mbappe’s record.
While Rodri took the limelight, Yamal had a special night as well as he was named the winner of the Kopa Trophy given to the best U-21 player. Barcelona have now won the award thrice in the past four years with Pedri and Gavi being the other two recipients.
