It’s been another tumultuous few months at Chelsea Football Club.
Not a week seems to go by without the West Londoners in the headlines for one reason or another.
For example, it now appears that Todd Boehly and Behdad Egbali are at loggerheads with the former trying to buy Clearlake Capital out, and vice versa.
Both on and off the pitch there seems to be little alignment, and the associated fall outs appear to be a source of continuous embarrassment.
Chelsea ace’s decision should be respected says Romano
One player who was cast aside during the summer and essentially told to find alternative employment was former captain, Ben Chilwell.
Whilst some may laud Enzo Maresca’s directness as it leaves no grey area, there’s also a cogent argument that you just don’t treat players in such a manner.
In any event it saw Chilwell dig his heels in, and transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, believes the player’s controversial stance needs to be respected.
Ben Chilwell’s determination could see him as part of the Chelsea first-team squad again“This summer there were clubs interested in Ben Chilwell, but the player wasn’t simply going to accept everything just because Chelsea wanted him to find a solution,” he said to CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing.
“He only wanted to accept important proposals and he’s prepared to fight to get back into Maresca’s thoughts as a concrete option for the starting XI as soon as possible.
“It’s something we should all respect. There are contracts in football and sometimes players are not willing to leave.”

At present, it’s understood that Chilwell is still training away from the Blues first-team, though it’s believed that Maresca’s attitude may have thawed to the point where he will be brought back into the fold until a solution can be found for him.
It may well be that the player’s determination to impress is something that plays in his favour, giving his manager some food for thought particularly if he can find a decent rhythm in training.
