Romelu Lukaku will soon be able to publish an Italian backpacker’s guide based on his experiences. After Milan (with Inter) and Rome (with AS Roma), the Belgian striker will discover Naples. It was his wish and that of his new coach, Antonio Conte. A man who knows him well since he made him his scoring machine during his first stint at Inter Milan, between 2019 and 2021.
Having landed on the Napoli side, he quickly whispered Lukaku’s name to its president Aurelio de Laurentiis, especially since Victor Osimhen was due to leave the club during this transfer window, thus leaving the number 9 spot. If the Nigerian has still not changed his tune and could even ultimately stay, Conte has won his case for Lukaku, after long weeks of negotiations with Chelsea.
Romelu Lukaku, the king of transfers
According to Italian media, the deal was concluded with a transfer worth around €30 million, plus €15 in bonuses, and 30% of a potential resale of the striker. Potential, because he is now 31 years old. After having worked his way through Italy and England, will Lukaku settle down in Naples for longer? In any case, he has signed a three-year contract, as announced by Naples. “Romelu is proud to be one of us. The Belgian striker will defend the colours of Napoli for the next three seasons”the club’s statement said.
He is therefore probably leaving England for good, where he played for Chelsea on several occasions, but also West Bromwich Albion, Everton and Manchester United. Bought at a high price by Chelsea and Manchester United, Lukaku has now accumulated nearly €370 million in transfers since the start of his career. And it’s not over yet…
