Before Al-Nassr’s meeting against Al-Raed in the Saudi Pro League, Cristiano Ronaldo showed up to the warm-up wearing a special jersey in support of Saudi Arabia’s bid for the 2034 World Cup.
“Saudi 34”. Cristiano Ronaldo and his Al-Nassr teammates wore a bib with this name and number on the back during the warm-up before the match against Al-Raed in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday evening. The “CR7” club obviously supports Saudi Arabia’s candidacy to host the 2034 World Cup.
Saudi Arabia is, however, guaranteed to be designated as the host country of the 2034 World Cup. Fifa has in fact granted the 2030 edition to Morocco, Portugal and Spain, but also to Argentina, Paraguay and to Uruguay for the first three matches of the competition. The 2034 World Cup will therefore be awarded to one or more countries in Asia and Oceania and the Saudi candidacy is the only one to have been submitted.
Sadio Mané in the eleven
David Opsina in goal, Aymeric Laporte in central defense, Marcelo Brozovic and Sadio Mané on the left wing also start the meeting with Ronaldo. Al-Nassr, second in the standings (nine points behind Al-Hilal), faces a 15th place led by former striker Julio Tavares.
Note that Ronaldo started his career with Sporting with the number 28, before donning the 7 upon arriving at Manchester United. He was also Real Madrid’s number 9 during his first season (2009-2010, with Raul still in the team). In the Portuguese selection, he wore 17 for several years before taking over 7 from Luis Figo.
