EXCLUSIVE: Ronny Chieng, one of the hosts of The Daily Show, is getting back into the stand-up specials business.
The comedian has set his latest special Love To Hate It for Netflix to be released on December 17.
It comes after Chieng, who also starred in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, signed a broad deal for comedy specials at the streamer in 2021.
It follows his two previous Netflix specials: Asian Comedian Destroys America! was released in 2019 and Speakeasy came out in 2022.
Love To Hate It was taped at the historic Hawai’i Theatre in Honolulu, where he had a five-night sold-out run, as part of his eponymous tour. The special unpacks the indignities of the IVF process, the pitfalls of being a man on the internet, American politics and the place of the older generation in today’s world.
It is directed by Cameron Barnett and exec produced by Chieng, Hannah Pham, Mike Bertolina, Jordan Ellner, Bill Burr, Al Madrigal and Joel Zadak. It is produced by All Things Comedy.
The special comes as NYC-based and Malaysian-born Chieng is preparing to help The Daily Show navigate the upcoming Presidential election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, with a live show on election night.
Elsewhere, Chieng stars in Hulu’s upcoming series Interior Chinatown, which premieres on November 19. He has also starred in M3GAN, American Born Chinese, Doogie Kameāloha, M.D, Vacation Friends 2 and Joy Ride.
