It was reported at the time that Ferguson threw a boot at his star winger after a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, something which was later confirmed with tweaks to the storyline.

It was revealed that Ferguson in fact kicked the boot in frustration, and Keane has revealed his old boss was unlucky to have caused so much drama.

Speaking ahead of Manchester United vs Tottenham, he said: “I think Becks was somewhere near the mirror.

“The manager had a go at him for not tracking back. Becks said something back… It was an accident.

“Listen he struck it well, but it was so unfortunate honestly.

“If it was anyone else it would have been fine but because it was Becks and he was so high profile and like Jamie [Redknapp] a good looking guy that created one or two issues.

“That all happens in dressing rooms, I used to love all that stuff.”

Redknapp then referenced the famous ‘Pizzagate’ match, where Cesc Fabregas was alleged to have thrown a slice of pizza at Ferguson.
