Manchester United are reportedly looking for a new manager at the end of the season.
There has been a lot of conjecture in the media about the Man United job and who could replace current manager Erik ten Hag, if he is sacked by the Red Devils.
ten Hag has endured a difficult second season at Old Trafford after being knocked out in the Champions League group stage and not performing consistently in the Premier League.
Man United may sack Erik ten Hag
However, they could still finish the season with silverware as they are in the FA Cup semifinal where they will come up against Coventry City.
ten Hag has been criticised for Man United’s lack of identity, poor strategy and failure to perform on a consistent basis.
Man United legend Roy Keane has had his say on who could be the next manager to take charge of the Red Devils.
England boss Gareth Southgate has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and Keane thinks he could be the next Man United boss.
He said on Stick to Football: “I could see that happening, yeah.
“Everyone is thinking he is probably going to leave England this summer if he has a good championship, thinking if they could win it. And if they don’t you’re thinking maybe you have ran your race with it.
“He has that connection with Dan Ashworth, and has worked with him previously. Yeah [I could see it happening].”
Gareth Southgate to Man United?Does Southgate have the right experience to manage Man United?
Southgate has done well as England boss after managing to take the Three Lions to the World Cup semifinal and Euro final.
The Man United players involved in the England setup know him well and speak highly of him.
However, Southgate’s lack of experience at club level could make it difficult for him to perform well at Old Trafford.
The England boss has only managed Middlesbrough at club level and that was from 2006-2009.
The pressure that comes with the job at United is different than any other job, with heavy scrutiny every week and every small detail being discussed regularly.
Though the events of the following several months should be exciting, Southgate will not be well-liked by the supporters at Old Trafford.
