Ruben Amorim has played down how Ed Sheeran gatecrashed his Sky Sports interview after Manchester United’s draw at Ipswich Town.
Speaking to reporters at Carrington this afternoon, Amorim insisted: “It was nothing.”
The Portuguese coach was in the middle of an interview at Portmand Road when glorified karaoke star Sheeran interrupted the live segment to get his two pence in.
However, Sheeran has since apologised for his mistake with a brief message on social media, but Amorim is of the view the entire moment was blown out of proportion.
“Here you are used to that but in Portugal, it’s so different”, he said, speaking during his press conference ahead of United’s Europa League clash against Bodo/Glimt, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“I think sometimes you overcomplicate things. It was nothing. It was a simple question of saying hello to one of the commentators. So, for me it was nothing.
“I was just thinking about the game. I was with Roy Keane. Roy Keane was the real star of that panel. It was really, really OK. It was nothing special.”
Ed Sheeran apology

Reacting to the backlash from the mishap, Sheeran said: “Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn’t actually realise he was being interviewed at the time, was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie,’ Sheeran wrote on Instagram.
“Obvz feel a bit of a b****nd but life goes on.
“Great game though, congrats to all involved x.”
Amorim was left in shock by the situation and you could tell he wasn’t impressed at the time. He was in the middle of making a point about the game when Sheeran decided it would be funny to interrupt proceedings in a selfish act of disrespect.
