“Rubbish” – Pundit slams Fulham star after 2-1 win over Manchester United

Former Premier League striker turned pundit Chris Sutton has criticised Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno despite their 2-1 win over Manchester United on Saturday.

The result came as a shock because we’ve finally seen Manchester United go on a winning run, and we were welcoming a Fulham side that has struggled away from home this season.

Fulham deserved the three points on the day and the result is a big blow to our chances of securing a Champions League spot. Calvin Bassey opened the scoring for the Cottagers with a powerful strike, which left Andre Onana with no chance of stopping it.

United thought they had secured a point in the 89th minute when Harry Maguire sent the ball past Leno, but Fulham took the lead again in stoppage time when former Arsenal man Alex Iwobi found the back of the net.

Leno criticised after Maguire goal

It was a bitter pill to swallow for Leno, although I’m sure he was relieved at full-time knowing they were going to be returning to London with an unexpected set of three points.

Leno deflected a shot from Bruno Fernandes directly into Maguire’s path. BBC pundit Chris Sutton believes the German goalkeeper should have either held onto the shot or directed it elsewhere – away from Maguire, our very own fox in the box!

After the match, Sutton argued that Leno’s performance was subpar, labelling him “rubbish” and suggesting that Fulham boss Marco Silva would likely share the same opinion.

“Bernd Leno is rubbish,” Sutton said, as per BBC Sport. “Marco Silva will tell you the same thing after the game it’s a comfortable height for him to gather.”

Looking at the stats, however, it wasn’t the worst performance from Leno. He registered seven saves and Fulham came away from Old Trafford with three points.

The goal wasn’t Leno’s finest moment but it is clear that Sutton doesn’t rate him as a keeper.
