Rumer Willis, Gbenga Akkinagbe & More To Star In Indie Western ‘Broken Trail’

EXCLUSIVE: Rumer Willis (Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood), Gbenga Akkinagbe (Rob Peace), Jeff Fahey (Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1) and Graham Greene (Echo) are in production in Arkansas on Broken Trail, a new Western from director Johnny Remo and his Skipstone Pictures.

Written by Remo and longtime collaborator Daniel Backman, the film set in 1875 watches as the life of Katherine (Willis) is shattered when her beloved husband falls victim to a murder orchestrated by the nefarious Colonel Davis (Fahey). Alone and overwhelmed, Katherine’s path crosses with John Scobell (Akinnagbe), a Black man with a troubled past as a former Pinkerton Agent. Despite initial reluctance, John is drawn to Katherine’s determination and the injustice of Caleb’s death. Together, they form an unlikely alliance fueled by a shared desire for retribution.

Others in the ensemble include Eric Nelsen, James Landry Hebert, Jeremy Sumpter and Connor Eterson. Remo is also serving as the film’s producer.

Said Remo in a statement to Deadline, “We are beyond excited to start shooting ‘Broken Trail’ and bring this powerful story to the screen. Recently seen in films like Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, My Divorce Party and Maya, Willis has also been seen on television on Fox’s Empire.

Akinnagbe is coming off of roles in Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Rob Peace, Phillip Noyce’s Fast Charlie, Power Book II: Ghost, and the latest season of Nat Geo’s Genius.

Known for starring on ABC’s Lost, Fahey can currently be seen in Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1.

Most recently seen on shows like Echo and Reservation Dogs, Greene also boasts film credits like The Green Mile and Wind River.

Through SkipStone Pictures, Remo has produced films including Hellfire with Harvey Keitel and Stephen Lang, The Tower with Bella Thorne and Jack Kilmer, The Chariot with John Malkovich, Rosa Salazar and Thomas Mann, Monstrous starring Christina Ricci, The Old Way starring Nicolas Cage, and God’s Country Song with Justin Gaston and Mariel Hemingway, among others. As a director, his credits include indies like God’s Country Song and Saved by Grace.
