WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam, known for popping up unexpectedly, made a surprise appearance at the September 13th episode of SmackDown. With that said, he also made appearances on AEW television this year and in that regard, RVD has confirmed he is under a WWE Legends deal.

The Whole F’n Show has made sporadic appearances on AEW television since last year. RVD stepped into the ring on the February 21 episode of AEW Dynamite, teaming up with Hangman Adam Page and HOOK to take on Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland, and Brian Cage. He would then compete again on the April 20th edition of AEW Collision, which was his last appearance with AEW for now.

In a recent interview on the Cheap Heat Productions Podcast, Rob Van Dam confirmed that he is under a Legends contract with WWE. Since August 2023, Van Dam has made several appearances for AEW. He explained that these appearances were based on per-appearance agreements that allowed him to wrestle without being tied down to a long-term contract.

When he first spoke with Tony Khan about working with AEW, Van Dam mentioned that he still had his WWE Legends deal. This means that while he can wrestle for AEW, his appearances are somewhat limited because WWE controls his use in things like video games and action figures. He humorously noted that while his options are restricted on both sides, he feels he is enjoying the best of both worlds, or simply that “RVD does whatever he wants.”

The first time that I talked to Tony Khan about doing this (working with AEW), a factor was that I still have a WWE Legends deal. So, my use to AEW would be limited as far as they can’t put me on video games, action figures, stuff like that and so, you could say it’s limited on both ends or you could say I got both ends going, best of both worlds or you could just say RVD does whatever he wants.”

Quite a few legends have signed a Legends deal with WWE recently, as the likes of DDPVictoriaArmando Estrada and others have inked deals with the company, so fans are glad to know that even RVD is under such a deal. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see when RVD will return to WWE television again somewhere down the line.
