Ryan Reynolds is paying tribute to Fox’s “weird” and “risky” Marvel universe, with gratitude to the studio where Deadpool got its start.

“This isn’t just Deadpool saying ‘Oh, Hello’ to the MCU. It’s Deadpool – and Hugh, Shawn and me – saying farewell to a place and an era that literally made us,” Reynolds wrote on Instagram. “We are forever grateful to the fun, weird, uneven and risky world of 20th Century Fox. It was our origin story and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. And thank you to Kevin Feige and Disney for allowing us to share it.’

Disney acquired then-20th Century Fox studios in 2019, home to the first two Deadpool movies starring Reynolds. It was announced at the time that Deadpool would be integrated within the MCU beginning with 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which is now the 6th biggest opening at the domestic B.O. with $211M. It also broke the record for an R-rated movie’s first weekend at the B.O.

Alongside his Instagram post, Reynolds shared a 2015 cast photo with some of 20th Century Fox’s biggest stars during the Marvel era. Along with Reynolds and Jackson, the photo features Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), James McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Miles Teller (Mr. Fantastic) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver), along with Channing Tatum who was to portray Marvel Comics title character Gambit, a film Disney canceled in 2019.
