The Saga Origins announcement adds to the company’s long-standing support for the Web 3.0 gaming market.

Saga Network, a leading Layer-1 blockchain protocol in the Web 3.0 space is currently in the news with the launch of Saga Origins, a pioneering game publishing division. This project underlines Saga’s desire to actively contribute to the future of the Web3 gaming industry, rather than simply participating in it.

The Promise of Saga Origins

Saga announced at the Game Developers Conference on Tuesday that the game publishing arm promises to offer a “full service and collaborative approach” to bringing games to market, in addition to support for user acquisition, community building, and marketing.

Saga’s co-founder and CEO Rebecca Liao described Saga Origins as a “love letter to the developers building games in Web 3.0”, adding that “while the onus of bringing users to the platforms often falls on the game developers, we want to buck that convention and use our platform to bring users to the games instead,” Liao added.

The CEO went on to state that Saga Origins will enable developers to build provocative, expansive, and uncompromising games for consumers, revolutionizing how users will experience games. While the label has yet to reveal particular games, Saga plans to present network games such as Rogue Nation and Another World at GDC this week, providing a preview of the types of experiences Saga Origins hopes to promote.

According to the company’s statement, Saga Origins is the “first and only Layer-1 Web 3.0 game publisher”, even though Layer-2 publishers such as Immutable exist in the Ethereum ecosystem.

The Saga Origins announcement adds to the company’s long-standing support for the Web 3.0 gaming market. In October, the business launched the Pegasus incentivized testnet for Web 3.0 gaming, demonstrating its commitment to driving innovation in the field. The Pegasus testnet’s development demonstrates Saga’s commitment to empowering creators and partners, providing the groundwork for a lively gaming ecosystem.

Saga’s Mainnet to go Live in April

In addition to the Saga Origins news, Saga revealed plans to unveil its mainnet in April on its official X account. Saga had earlier announced an airdrop claim following months of play-to-airdrop tournaments for a variety of games, including those built on the Saga testnet as well as chains such as Avalanche and Polygon.

The airdrop also helps Decentralized Finance (DeFi) token stakers on numerous networks, as well as holders of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) such as the Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks. While eligible wallets can currently claim their airdrop allocations, it is worth noting that the token is not yet active. This is scheduled to happen when the Saga mainnet goes live in April.

Looking ahead,  all eyes will be on Saga as it continues to push the limits of what is possible in the blockchain gaming space in the coming months. With Saga Origins at the helm, the future of Web 3.0 gaming looks bright.
