AS Saint-Etienne won against Rodez this Friday in the second pre-playoff (2-0). The Greens will find Metz for a place in Ligue 1.

It was in an electric atmosphere that the Greens welcomed Rodez, one of their pet peeves this season, in a decisive match on the tortuous road to Ligue 1.

After defeating Paris FC at the end of a crazy scenario concluded by an incredible penalty shootout, this season’s surprise team had every intention of pulling off another big blow in a bubbling Cauldron. But AS Saint-Etienne held their place this time.

Saint-Etienne did not tremble

After a first act dominated in great width, the Greens ended up finding the opening after the break. And unsurprisingly, it was the inevitable Cardona, long uncertain, who took on the costume of flavor. The striker was the author of a perfect helmet shot to open the scoring (1-0, 65th). An advantage managed intelligently until the final whistle by ASSE, who even managed to deliver the blow in stoppage time on an individual exploit from Mbuku (2-0, 90th + 6). The step was too high for a physically blunted Rodez team.

AS Saint-Etienne will therefore meet FC Metz, sixteenth in Ligue 1, for a round-trip play-off with a place in the elite at stake. The first leg of this crucial double-header will take place on Thursday May 30 at 8:30 p.m. in Saint-Etienne. The return match will take place on Sunday June 2 at 5 p.m., in Metz, at the Stade Saint-Symphorien.
