Sam Rubin, who was a Los Angeles news mainstay as the longtime entertainment reporter for KTLA-TV and KNX-AM, died today. He was 64 and was on the air at KTLA this morning.

His KTLA colleague confirmed the news on social media but did not provide details. “I’m in absolute shock,” he wrote. “RIP, Sam. Thinking the most of your family right now. So sorry. Morning News in Hollywood will never be the same without you.”

Rubin joined KTLA Morning News in 1991. He won multiple News Emmys and Golden Mike Awards and received a lifetime achievement award from the Southern California Broadcasters Association. He also was named Best Entertainment Reporter by the Los Angeles Press Club.
