Sami Zayn has been part of the WWE family for a decade now and competed in all sorts of Premium Live Events during his career. WWE has undergone tons of changes and that includes reducing the match count for their Premium Live Events and Sami Zayn admitted he has mixed feelings about this decision.
During the Triple H era of WWE, there has been a notable shift towards prioritizing quality over quantity, particularly evident in the reduction of matches on Premium Live Event cards.
Reflecting on the decision to scale back the number of Premium Live Event matches, Zayn expressed mixed feelings in a conversation with Fightful. He acknowledged that while fewer matches mean more competitive spots for performers, it can also sideline compelling stories that don’t make the cut.
“Yeah, I have mixed feelings on it. Because, certainly as a performer, if you’re not figured in like… with seven or eight matches, there’s a little more real estate, and there’s a better chance of getting on. But now, even if you’re in a pretty prominent story, it still just might not make [the cut].
It’s not to say anything of the quality of your story or the quality of your performances, but it just might not be factored in, if there’s only five matches. Five is really not a lot, but it’s a quality-over-quantity sort of mentality, which is hard to disagree with. I do think it’s been better.”
Sami Zayn also wants a Premium Live Event to take place in Chile in the future. Nonetheless, Zayn is set to defend the Intercontinental Championship against Chad Gable at the Castle at The Castle Premium Live Event on June 15th, so we’ll have to see who will prevail in the match.
