Sami Zayn has been the Intercontinental Champion since defeating Gunther for the title at WrestleMania 40. Since then, he has engaged in solid feuds with the likes of Chad Gable. After SmackDown this week, Zayn cut a promo on the crowd, showcasing his passion and determination as champion.

The July 5 episode of WWE SmackDown featured several memorable moments that kept fans engaged from start to end but the fun did not stop there as there were dark matches after the show concluded.

One of the dark matches saw Sami Zayn defending the Intercontinental Championship against Chad Gable, who received the Kurt Angle treatment from the crowd during his entrance.

Toward the end of the bout, the former Olympian had Zayn locked in an ankle lock, but the Intercontinental Champion reversed it into a powerbomb. Zayn then delivered a Helluva Kick to secure the victory.

After the match, Sami Zayn cut a short promo. Billed from Montreal, Zayn expressed how the Toronto crowd always makes him feel like he’s in his hometown. He then hyped up Saturday’s Money in the Bank event, adding to the excitement.

”It feels good to be back in the 416. Those of you know, I’m from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. And hockey rivalry notwithstanding, I am damn proud I get to walk back in this city. Every time I get to Toronto, each and every one of you make me feel like a hometown boy. You know, I’m not going to do a big rah rah speech about how great you guys been all night because I’m sure you guys heard yourselves. This building is sold out for Money in the Bank. And tomorrow night I take on Bron Breakker. He’s done a lot of things in a short amount of time but I’ll be damned if he thinks he can take this away from me in Canada. Tomorrow night I beat Bron Breakker, I walk into Toronto and walk out of Toronto as the Intercontinental Champion.”

We will have to wait and see whether Sami Zayn will be able to defeat Bron Breakker at Money in the Bank on July 6th, as many fans feel it is Breakker’s time to become champion on the main roster.
