Reports circulating within Congress party circles suggest that Sania Mirza, the renowned tennis player, may emerge as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the Hyderabad parliamentary constituency. The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee has reportedly recommended Sania Mirza’s name for the Hyderabad LS seat, particularly in response to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s decision to field Dr. Madhavi Latha as their candidate and against Asaduddin Owaisi.

Sources indicate that the Congress party’s central leadership has given its approval for Sania’s candidacy. Her name is expected to be finalized during the Central Election Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening. Initially, there was consideration for former Indian cricket captain and PCC working president Mohd Azharuddin to contest from Hyderabad. However, the party altered its decision upon observing the BJP’s nomination of a female candidate for the same seat.

Interestingly, Md Azharuddin shares close ties with the Sania family, as his younger son Mohd Asaduddin is married to Sania’s sister, Anam Mirza. Sania Mirza, recognized as a youth icon in Hyderabad and the brand ambassador of Telangana, enjoys significant popularity among the Muslim youth in the region. Following her divorce from Shoaib Malik, she garnered substantial sympathy as well.

Initially hesitant, family members reportedly acquiesced to the Congress party’s proposal after discussions with the high command.
