Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will deliver the 36th convocation lecture of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.
According to a Monday statement, during a pre-convocation conference, the Rector, Yabatech, Dr Abdul Adedotun, said Sanwo-Olu would speak on ‘Developing Exportable Alternatives for Nigeria’s Economic Recovery,’ adding that he would bring his experience as the governor of the state to bear on the topic.
He revealed that this year’s convocation lecture is slated for Tuesday, November 19, 2024, and Vice President Kashim Shettima will chair the occasion.
Adedotun also said Yabatech was 77 years old in November.
He said, “Valuable ideas generated from this lecture will serve as the contributions of the premier institution to the economic diversification and recovery of President Bola Tinubu. There is no gainsaying the truism that Nigeria is currently economically challenged.
“But the President is putting the country on the trajectory of economic renaissance with his policies. Though the policies are coming with initial pains felt by the rich and the poor, there is a very high hope and positive indicators too that the President is getting it right and deserves the support of all of us.
“This year, the college in various schools will organise an Alumni Homecoming and Exhibition to showcase its achievements and beauty to the world. The convocation will be rounded off with the awards of degrees and diplomas to our successful and hardworking students and fellowship to two well-deserving Nigerians.”
He added that this year, 8,139 students would be graduating from Yabatech.
According to him, these graduates have demonstrated diligence and commitment to their studies and deserve to be celebrated.
“To provide you with more specific details, 316 students are graduating with distinction, 2,381 students have earned upper credit division; 3,939 are graduating with lower credit, and 1,503 students will be receiving their diplomas with a passing grade.”
He also said that during the 36th Convocation Ceremony, two distinguished Nigerians would be honoured with the prestigious fellowship award of Yaba College of Technology.
“These individuals have not only made remarkable contributions to Nigeria but have also inspired generations with their leadership and vision. Our fellowship awardees are the wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Honourable Tajudeen Abass.
“Their achievements in public service reflect the values of dedication, integrity, and excellence that we seek to instill in our students. We are proud to have them as part of the Yaba College of Technology,” Adedotun said.
