While on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actress said that they’d only done “some prep” work for the movie before Ryan was let go.

It was later revealed that the actor and director Peter Jackson had “creative differences” over his character’s appearance with Ryan putting on a substantial amount of weight before filming.

Saoirse said that him being fired was not “disorienting” or “scary.”

“I think I just loved Ryan. And his dog, George,” she recalled. “And I was just sad that, you know, he wasn’t gonna be around.”

She continued, adding, “But I think the reasons why they parted were totally valid, and I’ve spoken to both now, and it happens. Do you know what I mean? It it’s not personal, necessarily. It’s like sometimes you’re just not on the same page.”

“It meant that Mark was able to step in, and he was a father. He was a father to three kids, and he probably had an experience of that that Ryan felt like he didn’t. Ryan was like 27. He was young,” she added.

Another fan-favorite actor revealed Ryan‘s trick to gain weight for the part.
