Saraya reflects on the anniversary of #GiveDivasAChance.

On February 23, 2015, #GiveDivasAChance started trending during WWE RAW. On the show, The Bella Twins faced Paige and Emma. The match’s length was cut due to time restrictions, and it was not even a minute long. The Bella Twins later revealed that they purposefully ended the match after a finisher, even though they were allotted at least a minute, to make a statement.

After the match, fans took to Twitter to voice their frustrations about the shortness of the match, and many posts included the hashtag, “GiveDivasAChance). The hashtag trended for three days, as fans wanted to see longer matches and better stories for the women’s division. This movement eventually led to the Women’s Evolution, which included Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Ronda Rousey headlining WrestleMania 35.

Saraya, formerly known as Paige, took to Twitter to respond to a post that highlighted the nine-year anniversary of #GivaDivasAChance. She stated that she was proud of the women in the match for taking that risk. Saraya also wrote that she was proud of the fans for backing them up, and they changed women’s wrestling.

I’m so proud of us taking that chance and risk! And all the wrestling fans and diva Stan’s (do you guys feel old yet because I do.. haha) backing us up.. 3 huge days of support for women’s wrestling and wanting a change. We did in fact change it though didn’t we? ??? love this… https://t.co/nnKm6KO5wr
