Saudi Arabia wants to treat itself to a PSG captain

Saudi Arabia has, for several transfer windows already, been pursuing a fairly aggressive recruitment policy, aiming to afford a good number of stars by offering them emoluments with which European clubs cannot – or do not want – to match. Even if it is true that the media impact of the Saudi championship remains less in Europe, with catastrophic audiences in France for example, the ambitions of the government of the Gulf country remain colossal.

The Saudi Pro League, for example, intends to make Vinicius Jr the new face of its championship, and a departure of the Madrid star to Saudi Arabia cannot clearly be ruled out. Other rather important players from the Spanish capital club like Antonio Rüdiger and Thibaut Courtois are also targeted, but they do not necessarily intend to leave the Bernabéu next summer.

Saudi Arabia does not give up

Real Madrid, however, is not the only club that could be a victim of excessive Saudi ambitions. As the daily indicates The TeamParis Saint-Germain also risks seeing the Saudis seize one of its major players in the coming months. This is Marquinhos, the captain. Saudi Arabia, which already tried last summer without success, will try again to acquire the Parisian captain, who played 11 Ligue 1 matches under the orders of Luis Enrique this season.

The Saudi authorities thus maintain contact with the brother of the 30-year-old defender, who is also his agent. New proposals that are difficult to refuse financially should therefore arrive on his desk in the coming months, and Marquinhos, who extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2028 in May 2023, will have to make a difficult decision for his future…
