Al-Hilal are set to lose Saud Abdulhamid to Roma this week and to replace the right-back the Saudi Arabian champions are pushing to sign Joao Cancelo from Man City.

Abdulhamid is close to joining AS Roma and will arrive in Italy to get the deal over the line on Monday. The transfer is set to cost the Serie A giants only €3m but Al-Hilal plan to use that moment straight away.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Saudi outfit are pushing to sign Cancelo from Man City and talks are progressing with the player’s agent.

The full-back has no future at Man City having spent the last season and a half out on loan with Bayern Munich and Barcelona. The Catalan club were interested in bringing the Portuguese star back to La Liga but given their financial situation, a deal is very complicated, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Cancelo’s preferred destination is the Spanish city, however, with just one week left in the transfer window, the Portugal international cannot wait around for Barcelona to get their funds in order.

Saudi Arabia looks like the destination for Man City’s Joao Cancelo

Cancelo still has a lot to offer European football, therefore, a move to Saudi Arabia is an underwhelming one for the full-back. However, the defender doesn’t have any other options as European clubs are not willing to part ways with the funds required to sign the Man City star.

The 30-year-old will leave the Premier League champions having spent five years in Manchester. City acquired Cancelo from Juventus back in 2019 as part of a £60m deal and at one stage, the full-back was considered one of the best in the world in his position under Pep Guardiola’s watch.

The Portuguese star has declined since then but will still think he is good enough to compete in a major European league.
