More Details On The 13-Year-old Michigan Girl’s Charges
According to The Independent, the identities of the 13-year-old and her sister have not been publicly revealed. Additionally, the teen has reportedly been charged with first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, and first-degree child abuse.
Per the outlet, a prosecutor named Kym Worthy explained that the 13-year-old will not be tried as an adult. However, the teen “will be kept in the juvenile system.”
“Given her young age, the state would have seven years to diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate her until her mandatory release at age 21,” Worthy reportedly explained. “Hopefully, then she would not be a danger to others. While this is a difficult decision given these facts, it is the right thing to do in this case.”
Nonetheless, Worthy reportedly repeated that “the facts in this case are horrific.”
“It is beyond disturbing that the alleged person responsible for the stabbing death of her seven-year-old sister is thirteen years old,” she said.
AP News reports that the teen has remained in custody following a preliminary hearing on October 1.
More Details On The Alleged Stabbing Of The 7-Year-Old Sister
According to the outlet, the incident occurred at the girls’ home in Taylor on Saturday, September 28. The teen was allegedly babysitting her younger sister when an argument broke out about a note that was left in the bathroom.
The note was reportedly about “flushing the toilet.” Subsequently, a fight broke out between the pair, and the 13-year-old allegedly stabbed her sister in the “abdomen, head, and neck.”
Afterward, the teen reportedly called 911, and authorities found the child with ten stab wounds.
Ultimately, the 7-year-old was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead.
“She was very calm and just showed no emotion,” Detective Zachary Digiacomo reportedly said of the 13-year-old.
Meanwhile, a neighbor named Julie Pagoto shared a statement about the younger sister.
“Just last night I was talking to her and now she’s gone… she used to walk up and down the street everyday riding her bike, walking up and down the street stopping and talking to neighbors. She was just the sweetest little girl,” Pagoto told CBS News.
A Girl Was Recently Charged For The Death Of Her Younger Cousin
As The Shade Room previously reported, a similar incident involving relatives who were minors occurred in Kentucky in July. Furthermore, a then-12-year-old girl was accused of fatally smothering her 8-year-old cousin.
At the time, authorities looked into the motive behind the incident. However, the victim’s mother stated that the girls had gotten into an argument over an iPhone before the fatal incident.
“I consider this to be one of the most disturbing violent acts committed by either an adult or juvenile that my office has prosecuted,” District Attorney General Frederick H. Agee had reportedly asserted in a statement at the time.
