Scott Speedman reflected on his return to Grey’s Anatomy and how fans reacted to the news that his character Dr. Nick Marsh was back.

If you were unaware, the actor made his debut on the show way back in Season 14. He was brought back as an onscreen love interest for Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) a few years later. Since the 20th season, he’s been a recurring cast member.

During a recent interview on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw, Scott revealed how he felt when he learned that some fans were not excited to see him return.

He also opened up about how the show is dedicated to getting surgical scenes right and how they keep him on track.

“They have lots of thoughts. I thought it was gonna be a layup, me coming onto the show,” Scott recalled.

He continued, saying, “I’m not a big social media guy, but I remember going on after my first episodes debuted with her, and they tease like, ‘There’s this character coming back to the show.’ And the fans, you know, on social media were not… There was a lot of vomit emojis, which I was like, ‘Oh, alright, alright.’”

How did he respond? Scott said that all you can do is “kind of laught at it.”

“It’s really funny how serious they are about that character and who’s with that character and who’s not with that character,” he said.

Scott noted that the creators were “very serious” about filming in the surgical arena.

“There’s one lady there who just yells at me every time I’m doing a surgery scene, which I love,” he admitted. “It’s really fun. Cause you screw it up, you know, she’s on you, but it’s pretty fun doing that.”

When asked what he’s getting wrong, he said, that it might not be anything big.

“It’s just how I’m holding something, or I’m not doing something right, or she told me to do something. She comes over and, like, hits your hand and is like, ‘You’re not doing that right.’ You know, you’re trying to do dialogue, which you have no idea what you’re talking about, and you’re trying to do it with a serious face,” he said.

If you missed it, Scott recently reflected on his relationship with Ellen.
